Poland Official Mail 1921-1923

This exhibit shows official mail with ordinary postage stamps from 1921 to 1923. Effective January 1, 1921, a new Regulation abolished the discounted postage rates on Official mail and advised organizations to use up their stocks of Official Stamps and to use ordinary postage stamps. Prior to 1921, Poland issued a set of Official postage stamps in February 1920. These were used for Official organisations mail at a discounted postage rate, having been previously free of postage.

With rising inflation, a new Regulation of May 25, 1923, introduced a “Lump Sum” payment system and the use of postage stamps gradually ceased. Official mail examples are scarce, little entered the public domain to survive the WW2 German invasion and occupation and the Communist takeover.
