World War II Local Overprints: 1944-45
As the German occupation of Poland collapsed in the summer of 1944, the Polish postal system needed to be nationally reconstituted. As the Red Army and Polish forces moved westward, individual towns were liberated at different times. As a result stocks of stamps primarily issued by the General Government (GG) during German occupation were overprinted to fill an immediate need to provide postal services.
This section of the Kronenberg collection is an extensive summary of the World War II local overprints. Included are overprints from Rudnik and Sanem, Siedlce, Sosnowiec, Wawolnica and the extremely scarce Zamość overprints. Examples for forged overprints are also shown.
